Care sustains society
Advocating for the economic and social value of care, including love labour
Welcome to Affective Equality?
We believe that care and love labour sustain individuals, families, and communities — yet too often this work remains unseen and undervalued.
Our vision is a society that recognises and supports the real work of love and caring for one another. Through conversation, reflection, and advocacy, we work to make care more visible, valued, and shared.
Affective Equality advocates for the economic and social value of care, including love labour — helping to reframe how care is understood within our homes, workplaces, and society.
Why Care Matters
- care sustains society
- unpaid care remains undervalued
- unequal care creates inequality
What is Affective Equality?
Affective equality is about ensuring that everyone has a fair opportunity to give and receive love, care, and support — the relationships that sustain human wellbeing, development, and belonging.
It also asks an important question: who carries the work of care?
Too often, the responsibility for caring falls unevenly, creating unfair burdens for some people — particularly women and those with fewer social or economic resources.
Affective equality recognises two connected inequalities:
Inequality in access to care and support
Not everyone has their emotional and care needs met equally, which can shape wellbeing, opportunity, and belonging throughout life.
Inequality in care work
The work of caring — often unpaid and unseen — is not shared equally. This imbalance contributes to gender and social inequalities both within homes and across society.
Our Vision
A society that recognises, values, and supports care and love labour as essential to individual wellbeing and collective life
Mission
Affective Equality advocates for the economic and social value of care, including love labour.
We work to make care more visible, valued, and shared by supporting caregivers to recognise the skill and leadership within their everyday care, and by contributing to wider conversations that shape homes, communities, and society.
Values
Care — recognising care as essential to human life and connection.
Respect — valuing the dignity and contribution of every caregiver.
Equity — challenging unequal burdens of care and promoting fairness.
Empowerment — supporting people to recognise and articulate their own value.
Integrity — working thoughtfully, inclusively, and with authenticity.
Connection — strengthening relationships and shared responsibility.
What We Do
At Affective Equality, we work to make care and love labour more visible, valued, and shared.
Through advocacy, engagement, empowerment, and awareness raising, we support caregivers to recognise the skill and leadership within their everyday care while contributing to wider conversations about how care is understood and supported across society.
Our work begins with individual recognition and extends outward — into homes, communities, and social policy.
Advocacy
We advocate for the economic and social value of care and love labour.
This means challenging outdated assumptions about who provides care and ensuring that responsibility is shared more fairly. We contribute to conversations that support policies and practices which recognise caregiving as essential work — including access to childcare, elder care, and meaningful support for caregivers.
Community Engagement
Through community dialogue, shared stories, accessible resources, and an online community we create spaces where care can be talked about openly and understood more fully.
Engagement helps build connection, reduce isolation, and strengthen collective understanding of why care matters for individuals, families, and society.
Empowerment
We deliver workshops, reflective group experiences, and learning opportunities that support primary caregivers to recognise and articulate the skill, leadership, and value within their everyday care.
Our approach focuses on recognition and confidence — helping caregivers see their contribution differently and feel more empowered in their homes and beyond.
Awareness Raising
Awareness raising is central to our work. Through campaigns, conversations, and public dialogue, we help bring affective equality into wider social and policy discussions — highlighting why care and love labour are essential to social justice and collective wellbeing.
