Our journey to affective equality

At Affective Equality, we believe care is not a private burden. It is foundational to our economy, our communities, and our collective wellbeing. Yet it remains invisible in policy, undervalued in economics, and disproportionately carried by women. Affective Equality exists to help change that. We advocate for systems that recognise, redistribute, and resource care — so that love labour is no longer unseen or unsupported.

Recognising the Value of Care and Love Work

Affective Equality was established to address the undervaluation of care and love work, including housework, which is essential for individual well-being and societal progress. The organisation seeks to ensure that all care work is recognised and highly valued, both within families and society, emphasising the importance of care and love labor in achieving the common good, as highlighted in Article 41.2 of the Irish Constitution.

What we do for common good

Affective Equality works tirelessly to turn our vision into reality. We achieve this by focusing on three key areas: raising awareness, dedicated advocacy, and providing practical supports. We highlight the critical role of care and love labour in the home, bringing its value to the forefront of public discourse in Ireland.

We advocate for policies and societal shifts that recognise and reward primary caregivers, ensuring they feel empowered and supported. Our practical supports are designed to uplift those who may feel disempowered due to their essential contributions in the home, fostering a stronger, more equitable society for all.

Who we're here for

Our work at Affective Equality, is dedicated to reaching mothers and primary-carergivers across Ireland. We envision a society where every carer in the home feels genuinely valued, respected, and rewarded for the invaluable work they do every single day.

We aim to bring about a positive change where the essential contributions of care and love labour are fully acknowledged, not just emotionally, but also economically and socially. By fostering this appreciation, we hope to empower carers and build a more supportive, equitable future for families throughout Ireland.

"Your dedication to valuing care has inspired us and made us feel truly seen and appreciated."
